About

Nikolas Koenig was born in Frankfurt,
Germany, and studied photography at the
Academy for Photo Design in Munich. After
moving to New York in 1995, he worked as a
freelance assistant before going out on his
own in 1998. He has since shot for numerous
magazines, such as Architectural Digest,
Conde Nast Traveler, GQ and Wallpaper, and
has been a regular contributor to the New York
Times Magazine for many years.
His commercial and advertising assignments
have spanned from collaborations with
agencies such as Baron & Baron, Young &
Rubicam, Lipman and Lloyd&Co to Annual
reports and furniture catalogs.
He is also the main photographer of several
hoteliers, such as Ian Schrager and Andre
Balazs and has photographed many other
boutique hotels and brands such as W, Andaz,
Morgans Hotel Group, Gansevoort and Yotel.
Over the years he has photographed architecture
and interiors of, and commissioned by, many well
known architects and designers, including Daniel
Libeskind, Renzo Piano, Tadao Ando, David
Rockwell, Annabelle Selldorf and Tom Kundig.
